There is always the chance of getting a lemon when you buy a used Electric Quad Bike. Most of these bad deals are due to the same thing; not performing a thorough inspection of the Quad Bikes for Sale before you buy it. Here are ten essential steps to follow when purchasing a used quad bike.
- It is essential to ensure that a quad is road legal when looking at it. Although most quad bikes can be type-approved from the factory for road use, some must be converted and approved by an MSVA test. The easiest way to determine if the 125 Quad Bikes you are looking at is to examine the V5C (Log Book). You will find either an e1-e4 number, followed by a year and then different numbers or an AA number with multiple numbers that indicate the MSVA certificate number.
2. Ensure you inspect the CV joint boots if it is a 4×4 quad. This is a crucial step as if the parts show cracks or tears; it can allow water, dirt or other debris to seep into them, causing costly repairs. You should also remove the rear and front differential inspection plugs. The colour of the gear oil should be checked. If the oil appears to be a milky chocolate colour, it could be contaminated by water. This could cause damage to the bearings.
3. Check for damage to the wheel bearings, suspension, brakes and ball joints. You can raise the quad bike and support it with jack stands. You can move each of the front wheels in all four directions. The same goes for the rear wheels. It is essential to inspect the chain rollers on quads that are chain-driven. Deep grooves or the absence of a chain roller can indicate excess weight or damage to the chain.
4. Check for play in the tie rod ends or steering stem bushes. Stand the quad bike on its side and move the handlebars forward and back.
5. You can raise the quad bike if you wish to inspect the undercarriage for damage, such as cracks or dents. Next, inspect the frame of the quad bike, including the shock mounts and A-arm mounts. These parts must not be bent or rusted. It could lead to welding and repainting.
6. Take off the seat cover and remove the airbox cover. After removing the filter, inspect the area around the air intake. If you find an airbox, water, dirt, or other debris has likely been collected. This can indicate that impurities and foreign matter have been sucked into your engine via the intake, leading to engine damage.
7.Turn the engine on and let it run. Listen out for any tapping or unusual sounds. Listen for popping or banging as you rev the engine. Then, please turn off the throttle to ensure it runs rather than stopping. Make sure to check the engine shutoff switch and key switch, as well as all head and tail lights. Check for oil and water leakages in the engine.
8.To check if the parking, hand and foot brakes are working smoothly, inspect them. Be aware of cracked or damaged cables.
9. It would be best if you looked for worn-out or lots of plugs. Although this might not be a significant problem, it can be an issue that you should raise when negotiating the price.
10.It’s a good idea to test drive the vehicle before making your final decision.
